Rethymno celebrates the very first hatchling of the endagered careta - careta sea turtle, in all Greece

Hatching season has begun once more here in Rethymno!

Monday August 12 2013 at 21:00, at the entrance of the Venetian Harbour, Rethymno is proud to celebrate the very first hatchling of the endangered careta- careta sea turtle, in all of Greece.

Rethymno is the third most important reproduction habitat of sea turtles in Greece.

Every summer, turtles come to Rethymno beaches to lay their eggs.

Sea turtles trust Rethymno’s beaches for their reproduction.

In Rethymno, every summer many young people from around the world are taking part in projects of ARCHELON (www.archelon.gr) in order to protect the sea turtles during their nesting season (May to October).
